Sunday evening,in the borough Queens NY, the Washington Freedom defeated the Brooklyn Knights 5-0. It was a wonderful display of possession and passing as the girls easily handled whatever the opposition threw at them. Emily played the full 90 minutes, starting in goal and making a save! That's right, 0 GAA and 100% save percentage! She them moved to center back and eventually up to midfield. She scored a goal after a PK was awarded for a hand ball. The GK made the initial save, but Em calmly tucked the ball in with her left foot. She also got an assist when she headed a Knight clearance back into the area and a Freedom forward tucked it in for the goal.
Great game, great to see C&T in attendance, beautiful skyline of Manhattan visible through the far end fence. The Metropolitan Oval, home of the Brooklyn Knights, is the oldest operating soccer specific venue in the United States. Lots of old school charm present at this field. The only difficult aspect of the day was the 9.5 hour round trip drive. Especially the 5 hour return trip with the 1:30 a.m. arrival in G'burg.
