Cougars take it to the Eagles 9-0

So yesterday I went to Seneca Valley High School to see a boxing match and a soccer game broke out! Ha ha ha, very funny and an extremely old joke.

The Cougars definitely put on a show of how to play the beautiful game last night scoring 9 goals in 80 minutes of play. It was obvious in the first few minutes that the Eagles were going to be no match for the mighty Cougars. The girls totally dominated the game in all statistical categories except fouls and cards received. We saw a lot of composure and maturity from the Cougars who stuck to their proven possession style. Goals were scored by 5 different Cougar players: (3) from Senior Ele Margelos, (2) from Senior Leah Prentice, including a very confidently struck PK. (2) from Sophomore Allie Solomon and (1) each from Freshman Kelley Whiteis and Junior Sami Slonim.

Sophmore goal keepers Gabby Paolini and Kelsey O'Connor shared the duties between the posts and kept the limited number of shots on goal by Eagles well away from the net.

Emily had one of her outstanding games, very focused on keeping the Eagles players off the ball. She was everywhere and running at everything. A goal line clear from a corner kick and a couple of midfield clearing headers added to the frustration of the Eagles from Seneca Valley. With 20 minutes to go in the 2nd half, coach Keiller moved Emily to the back line to solidify the defense and totally prevent SV from having any chance of scoring. Said Keiller at the end of the game, "I moved Emily into the back line because I knew she would die before she let Seneca Valley score a goal." And she was correct, the total player Emily is was very evident when she was in defense. She directs the other defenders and midfielders, remains calm and focused, a real joy to watch.

Well done Cougars!

The girl's next game is this Wednesday night, home at the Cougar Dome against the visiting squad from Damascus at 5 p.m.
