Freedom crush Princeton Soccer 8-0

Woo hoo, the goal bus was in town yesterday as the Washington Freedom U-20 Super Y team totally annihilated the visiting team from Princeton. Emily started out as one of the central defenders in the Freedom's typical 4-4-2 formation. After 15 minutes of play with the score 1-0 in favor of the Freedom, coach Ward moved Emily to the midfield in response to some sluggish possession by the Freedom, with the following instructions, "Diana, switch with Emily, Emily get up there and take control of the midfield play." And take control she did, seconds after the switch Emily sent a nice ball up wide that was then crossed in and struck home for the Freedom's second goal of the afternoon. The scoreline was 4-0 at the half.

The second half was more of the same precision passing and possession by the Freedom. Emily had a beautiful chipped pass to forward Tiffany Brown who then sent a blistering shot into the back of Princeton's goal. Emily had received some half time instruction from coach Kreiger about putting some back spin on her chipped balls so when the ball lands on the artificial turf field surface it "pops" up a little in front of the on rushing forward instead of rolling forward away from the attacker. She used the technique in the pass to Brown with excellent results.

The Freedom's next game is Saturday against TSF Academy at Camp Dawson in Towaco, NJ. For more information about all of the Freedom U-20's remaining games click here.
